Things to Know about SymBioSE 2000 Who can come to SymBioSE? Any student of Biological or Ecological Sciences in any university in Europe is welcome at SymBioSE. The programme has been aimed at students with at least two years' experience of university study, and will require a fairly good standard of English. What should I bring? Camping Equipment: The most important thing to bring is a tent. We may be able to provide a communal tent if you are unable to borrow or share one. If you cannot please let us know in advance so that we can make provision for you. But you do need to bring all your own sleeping stuff. Food: Food during the symposium will be provided, but there are shops and snack bars both at the campsite and the Faculty, so you won't go hungry! Insurance: We don't plan any very dangerous activities during SymBioSE, but still it is very important, whenever you travel to another country, to make sure that you have adequate travel insurance, both for your belongings and yourself. If you plan to travel in Scotland after the symposium, check that your insurance covers any outdoor activities you might want to do. Clothing: Although Scotland is infamous for it's rain and mosquitoes, it's probably necessary to mention that a raincoat is a very good idea! Also, if you plan to go on a field trip then please bring wellies or walking boots, as well as warm clothing. The Old Favourites: As with previous years, no SymBioSE would be complete without the odd musical instrument, as well as something authentic from your country, that can be given as a small gift to another participant. This could be food, drink, music or a souvenir. Money: There is no bank or foreign exchange either at the campsite or at the faculty, which might be able to exchange money for you. Please change enough money in the town centre before you come to the campsite. Remember Edinburgh is a capital city and can be quite expensive, so make sure you bring enough to last you the week! Remember: The place we will be staying is a public campsite where there will be families with young children, so you will be expected to keep the noise down late at night. Lastly, please try not to get carried away as Symbiose will take no responsibility for your behaviour. |
