We are proud to present SymBioSE 2002. This year's meeting will be held in the heart of Europe, between the Rhine Valley and the Black Forrest Mountains or more precisely, in the City of Freiburg.
This year's programme is packed with lectures, workshops and discussions on the latest topics in various fields of biology. So far, lectures, discussions and workshops about international ecology and the protection of species, developmental biology, molecular biology and genetics and bioethics are planned. Since this year we also want to focus on the future of biology and biologists, we included a series about start-ups and a career outlook. In addition, there will be excursions to Strasbourg (France) where we are going to visit the European Parliament and the Ecole Superieure de Biotechnologie with its trinational study programme, and to Basel (Switzerland) with a visit of Roche Ltd. And, of course, the city of Freiburg and its beautiful surroundings will not be forgotten. For those who can't get enough, the evenings will be filled with games, music, and discussions with colleagues, Freiburg's student nightlife and the grand finale, the big closing party.
SymBioSE will be held on the premises of the Karl School in Freiburg. Accommodation will be provided in the school's gym, where small group compartments are going to be installed. Therefore, it is necessary for you to bring your own sleeping stuff (camping pad, sleeping bag etc.). All lectures, workshops and discussions are going to take place in the lecture theatres and laboratories of the University of Freiburg.
The afternoon of the 17th and the 18th are reserved for arrival and registration. The official welcome lecture and the beginning of the programme will take place on August19th in the morning. The programme will end with a farewell party on August 25th. August 26th is reserved for departure. If somebody wants to come earlier or stay longer, we suggest you reserve a spot at a central camp ground or stay at the youth hostel.
